Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published nor is it under consideration by any other journal (or an explanation has been provided in the Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect format.
  • Whenever possible, URLs are provided for references.
  • The text is single-spaced; 12-point font size is used; italics are used instead of underlining (except in URLs); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the appropriate places in the text, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines available in the About the Journal section.

Author Guidelines

✅ GENERAL GUIDELINES:

  1. Manuscripts submitted to Revista Estudios Paraguayos for evaluation and possible publication may be sent in Spanish, Guaraní, Portuguese, and English. In all cases, regardless of the language chosen, manuscripts should be sent without spelling or grammatical errors, adhering to the presentation format required by this publication.
  2. The journal accepts pre-published or pre-printed articles (preprints) on servers using that methodology. Estudios Paraguayos encourages those who have submitted their articles for evaluation to deposit their scientific manuscripts on public servers, using the preprint modality. List of recommended preprint servers: asapbio.org/preprint-servers.
  3. To promote good academic practices and prevent plagiarism in articles, since 2018, the journal has engaged the services of Plagium Premium. All submissions, before the double-blind review process, will undergo mandatory checks with this control tool. Required level of originality: 85%.
  4. NO FEES ARE CHARGED FOR PROCESSING OR PUBLICATION OF ARTICLES.
  5. Revista Estudios Paraguayos accepts only "original scientific articles" for themes of a philosophical, sociological, historical, pedagogical, political, economic, anthropological, artistic, and other related nature, aimed at researchers, teachers, and students of social sciences who have Paraguay as their object of study (Thematic Areas: Humanities and Applied Social Sciences).
  6. By "original scientific article," it is understood: primary research works that disseminate the findings of the investigations that have taken place.
  7. Regardless of the selected language among the four options, "Abstract" and "Keywords" must be submitted in both Spanish and English as a mandatory criterion.
  8. There is no specified minimum or maximum page length. The quality of the works will be evaluated regardless of the word count.
  9. The manuscript must be submitted in a document allowing processing and subsequent layout. PDF files are not accepted.
  10. The text, WITHOUT INDENTATION IN PARAGRAPHS, should have a line spacing of 1.5, with top margin 3 cm, bottom margin 2 cm, left margin 3 cm, and right margin 2 cm, on A4-sized paper.
  11. All illustrations, graphics, figures, and tables should be within the text where they belong, properly cited, and with corresponding captions.
  12. The format is specified in the Format template shared on this site: "article_template."

✅ BASIC STRUCTURE OF ARTICLES:

Understanding the open nature of social sciences and humanities texts, the structure of the articles is left to each author. However, the following is mandatory:

  • Article title (Spanish and English, mandatory): the first letter capitalized and the following in lowercase.
  • Funding source for the article: If it had funding (it must be specified), if not, it should be stated: No funding.  
  • Author(s), Name, institution where they work and country.  In the case of several authors, they will decide the order of appearance according to their degree of participation.
  • If all authors have contributed in the same way, they must declare, at the end of the text and before the Bibliographic References, the following: Authors' contribution: all of them have participated in all the steps required for this research. If not, establish the roles according to the following taxonomy of authorship roles: Conceptualization; Data curation; Formal analysis; Funding acquisition; Investigation; Methodology; Project administration; Resources; Software; Supervision; Validation; Visualization; Writing - original draft; Writing - review & editing.
  • Abstract (Spanish and English, mandatory)
  • Keywords (Spanish and English, mandatory)
  • Article text: Structured based on the research results.
  • Notes, bibliographic references: explained in the shared template and in accordance with APA Version 6 standards (see publication manual)
  • Email address of the author or authors.
  • Brief biography of the author or authors.
  • ORCID identifier of the author or authors.
  • Dates of receipt and acceptance of the article. The Journal's Editorial Committee will record this information in the article before its publication.

✅ CITATION AND REFERENCES FORMAT:

  • In-text citations, direct quotes, follow APA Version 6 standards (see publication manual).
  • Bibliographic references (printed, electronic). Only references cited in the text should be included, alphabetically ordered in a single list. References follow APA Version 6 standards. Citations preferably should be from the last 5 years.
  • There is no minimum or maximum required citation count.
  • It is recommended to present tables and charts in Microsoft Excel files or another perfectly compatible program, although tables embedded in Microsoft Word files are also accepted. Illustrations (graphics, images, photos, drawings, maps, diagrams, or complete sheets) should each be presented in a separate file, in JPG or TIF format, generated in an image processing program. They should have good focus, clarity, and contrast, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and a maximum of 1000 dpi, considering that their maximum width in the journal will be 16 cm.
