This paper analyzes the state of the art on social structure and pre-political social movements in the Guairá-Caazapá region of Paraguay. It examines manifestations of protests and rejection of the dominant social order by peasants who did not structure their demands through their own organizational channels. The literature review covers research on cases starting from the late Middle Ages, including millenarian movements, reactionary rural revolts, and social banditry. Specific cases of social banditry and messianic movements in Paraguay during the 19th and 20th centuries are analyzed, as well as aspects of the region's socioeconomic and cultural structure. The paper concludes by identifying areas that require further research, such as the relationship between these forms of collective action and their socio-historical context, the complementarity between written and oral sources, and the connection between social protests and daily rural life.
