Paraguay: Stronismo and the Colorado Party. The Co-optation of the Colorado Party and Its Political-Military Control by the Army, 1954-1956

This research seeks to study and understand Stronismo as a Military Bloc that took power on 8 May 1954, aiming to reinstate the arrangement that had developed in Paraguayan society between 1936 and 1947, whereby the Armed Forces held full control of the Paraguayan Executive. At the same time, it offers evidence for considering that, contrary to what is usually presented as a situation that dominated Paraguayan society between 1954 and 1989, this was in fact a strategy of this Military Bloc to impose itself on national society, controlling and dominating the Colorado Party rather than the reverse, as the party's intellectuals and panegyrists portrayed it over the years.
